Antigravity - What would you do?

If somehow an inexpensive way to get around gravity was discovered and made public knowledge, what would you do? I have a feeling that I'd give it a shot. And if it were seemingly reliable enough, I'd try to figure out how to make a run for it. That's right, as nice as this planet seems to be, if I could gather enough resources to live in space for a while I'd give it a shot. Of course gathering those resources might be a bit more difficult, but if enough like-minded individuals could get together on such a project, not too far-out given the circumstances. Even something crude like an old propane tank with heavy glass portals added and a lot of plastic water containers on it for shielding could work. Besides it'd would just have to only hold one atmosphere, resist micrometeorites, and limit radiation to some degree. If anti-gravity could be produced at a much lower energy requirement than chemical rockets, then getting such a crude rig where you wanted it wouldn't be too big a deal. I guess having working spacesuits to make such a venture worthwhile and having guidance/navigation facilities adequate for space travel would be much bigger problems...

However, if anti-gravity did become readily available and achievable through simple means... I wonder if people really would be content to stay, or would there be quite an exodus despite how suicidal and risky it seems.

Personally, I think being one of the earlier settlers on Mars might be neat.

What's up with the news blackout?

Really, I feel like I'm under a news blackout here in the U.S. If it wasn't for the internet, it certainly would be. Yes it's news that Michael Jackson died and he was a cultural icon, but damn - it is not a story that deserves full time coverage on multiple channels. I want to hear about what the hell else is going on in the world. That's the reason why I go to the news channels every now and then. The point is that I want to hear about what is NEW in the world. Capice?

I guess the main stream media people are lacking in priorities. The Michael Jackson funeral should be covered on E!, VH-1, or even MTV. They're the ones responsible for the pop-culture and entertainment related stuff. Not CNN, Fox, MSNBC, or HLN or whatever. Priorities people, priorities!

Uh oh, he told about plasma foils!

Am I the only one that finds it amusing that a professor got in trouble for sharing some info about the same kind of technology that has been publicly presented on J.L.Naudin's website for a couple of years now?

But I guess that leaves me wondering about the depth and scope of the information provided. To what degree above and beyond the basics already in the public domain make it top secret?

---Edit---

I just did a double check. The professor is the same guy who wrote the plasma article in the 25th IEEE Conference on plasma Science that inspired J.L. Naudin. Apparently the technology wasn't too top secret back in 1998. So if you can get access to that article, I'd suspect a good bit of the information is public already.

Asteroids movie? Really?

I read about this on slashdot, but since the comment feature is broken again... Posting here instead.

Somehow I picture the movie being a cross between Deep Impact, Armageddon, Mars Attacks, and the latest version of Land of The Lost movie. The campier the better, the only way to go wrong with an Asteroids title (considering how the game is) is to try and be serious about it. I suspect and expect a comedy movie. Pew Pew! OMG! There's still more!
